Taking Bodhi to the vets this morning :(
It doesn't seem like two minutes ago we took him for his tummy bug and now we are taking him back again because he is limping really badly and was in constant pain through the night with his front right side paw. Not really sure how it happened, but we noticed at the weekend that he was all of a sudden holding his paw up and we thought he must have banged it or something as he had just come back from a walk and was perfectly fine on the park.
He seemed alright after a cuddle and to be walking ok, so we thought nothing more of it that day. Over the next couple of days he seemed to get a very slight limp on the same paw, but it was on and off and was so slight that it was sometimes hard to tell if he was limping at all or if it was our imaginations.
Then yesterday lunch when i came home to walk him, his limp was more prominent and he wasn't running around like he normally does so we cut the walk short. After getting home in the evening, it was obvious that we wouldn't be able to walk him at all last night, as he was mostly holding it up and only slightly putting weight on it. He was looking very sorry for himself, and it seemed to get worse through the night, ending up with us up all night with him as he was whining a lot and couldn't get comfortable so it was obviously hurting him.
I'm hoping its just a sprain or something, but will have to see what the vet says. I hope we're not being overdramatic, but as we think it stems from something that happened at the weekend, and its got a lot worse in that time, we don't really want to leave it in case it gets even worse.
The other thing i'm worried about and i don't know if this has any bearing on him limping or not, but we have recently started changing over his food from Beta puppy to Pro Plan. We've only been doing it since the weekend and have been introducing it gradually, but we noticed last night that somehow we had managed to buy 'adult' large breed instead of puppy and so we have been feeding him half his usual food and half this adult food (which is not only the wrong stuff but we would have been overfeeding him for the last few days without realising!) (and)
I really hope this hasn't had anything to do with it

I have to say we worry more about the weims than the kids. I do hope he is 'hamming' it up for you and it is something minor. Hugs to you for the worry.

The food is unlikely to be creating a sore paw but if worried, a good time to consider real food.

Hopefully it's either a sparian/strain or similar or a thorn or other foreign body.

For the future - Homeopathic Arnica is great for sprains/strains and Homeopathic Silicea is great for helping foreign bodies eject themselves.

Wasn't there another puppy limping recently? Are they related? She was diagnosed with Panosteitis.

Feeding him half adult and half puppy food for a few days won't have done her any harm. I put Rossi on adult food quite early on because the puppy food had tripe in and Enzo is severely allergic to tripe. I was so worried about giving them the wrong food or Enzo licking Rossi's bowl that I fed them both the same, but there was very little difference anyway.

Yes I think so. It may be worth contacting the breeder to see if the other littermates have experienced the same.
What did the vet say, Claire?

Hi, sorry i haven't posted earlier, i was a bit upset when we got back from the vets, but i am feeling a little more positive now.
The vet has given him a anti-inflammatory shot to take away the pain and we have got some Metacam to put in his food once a day for the next week. He is to have limited exercise for a whole week, i.e. no walks and only allowed into the garden on a lead, and then we have got to take him back next week to see how he has got on. Depending on how he is next week, he may have to have some x-rays done as the vet suspects Panosteitis ( we sort of suspected that ourselves as he has the same symptoms as Tia as a few people have mentioned in their replies, and i think it can be hereditary?). However, the vet also mentioned that it could be (worse case scenario) elbow dysplasia. He's briefly told us what that is and i have since looked it up on the internet and i its kind of similar to hip dysplasia but in the elbows. Although i have read up on it now, i am still hoping that he has only sprained/injured his leg still and that in a weeks time he is going to be right as rain and back to normal.
We're both really upset even though nothing has been diagnosed yet, as its just a bit of a shock, but we are going to make sure he gets as much rest and tlc as possible over the next week, in fact if i have to carry him everywhere i will!
I will keep you all updated on his progress and i will try and remain postive for our little babba /love/

Let's hope the metacalm etc does the trick and it's only a sprain.

Aaah Claire, Bodhi will be fine, you'll see. :-s:

Best not to jump to any conclusions, you'll only torture yourself - and if you're anything like me, you'll always think worse case scenario! Easier said than done I know, when we love them sooooo much. I'm sure you're speaking to Tia's 'mum' comparing symptoms, but let's hope it's just a sprain.

Lots of love and healing to the little one. xxx :-s: /love/

Poor Bodhi - really hope that it isn't Pano again.

Have you considered talking to your breeder - I know I would really want to know if I'd bred the litter.

Get well soon little chap :D
