Dog agility course in local park

Dog agility course in local park

Postby Chris » Wed Jul 28th, 2010 7:22 pm

A permanent dog agility course thought to be the first of its kind in the UK has been set up in a public park in Hertfordshire.

East Hertfrodshire District Council has put up the £7,000 facility in Bishop's Stortford.

Ian Sharratt, from the authority, said the idea was to improve people's and animals' fitness.

And whoever designed that tunnel, wants shooting

Not sure what is wrong with the tunnel - in order for it to be durable and stable it needs to be something like that. You could not have a flex tunnel otherwise it would be ripped - and at least this one is bolted down.

Great idea - we have adult fitness stuff in our local rec - wonder if they would stretch to agility too.

In another local rec there are lots of fun pieces that the dogs can go on - no kid permitting!

TBH Karen i wouldn;t allow my dogs near it.

Great idea but too poorly executed. The tunnel would have been better if it had a rubber lined base making it non slip.

I'm glad I'm on the Essex side of the border, I'd be furious to think I was being bullied and robbed for my council tax for it to be wasted in this way.

Its a nice gesture, but 'agility and fitness' is all around us. Bishop's Stortford has a river, is surrounded by fields and woodlands - you don't need 7k's worth of stuff in a park, just a little imagination and space.

My point exactly. They could have ribbed the inside of the tunnel. The dog going through the tunnel makes it look slippy, nothing to a grip on.

Not sure dogs will be in and out of there at speed and with kids aroundthe rubber matting would be torn out. It wil get scratched up soon enough.

Been trying to think of an equivalent but brain is mush ................ I guess that I am thinking that the average person who might use this is not going to be someone who is competing etc and its more likely to be that the kids play with it and the odd dog owner.

JMHO................ its like having a footie pitch for Village United versus a Premier League ground - it will be fine. You have the real thing Wendy so I would not expect you to use it.

Also like T does trampolining on proper competition trampolines - rather than the stuff you buy for the garden.

Just got a phone call from the local press - they've obvo seen this thread and wanted the view of local dog owners. I hope Debbie doesn't mind as I put them on to her. She lives very close by and walks Tye there.

Tye will no doubt be in the papers :D
