If he hasn't had any ill effects so far, I doubt he will. I'd be more concerned about giving the salt. Hope he's ok. Most ordinary milk chocolate such as you describe has very little actual chocolate--thankfully--in this case.

Poor Sue! you are worrying Far Too Much IME. Not, you will notice IMHO, but In My Experience.

Dora ate a Whole Box of Bentinck's Mint chocolates - dark, bitter chocolate and ten times as much of it, at least, as Gil's had.
She suffered a nasty bite wound from Willow, which punctured her sublingual gland and could've killed her - but no ill effects whatsoever from the choccy. Vet was thrilled because in my panic'd state I managed to get the entire breakdown of ingredients out of the manufacturer's R&D kitchen! He went on to say that at over 30kg. he'd not worry unless the intake was about 1kg. of choccy and the dog unfit and "only the good die young".... Dora was about 12 at the time!!
She was quite unwell from the leaking sublingual gland but no ill effects from the chocolate at all. She'd been a sugar-free zone all her life and the vet said that in many cases he'd worry more about the sugar than the theobromine......
but she ate and drank normally (a bloomin' miracle considering how swollen her face and neck were) and other than feeling sorry for herself was fine.
Willow had only had one mint at most - and had a couple of nasty tears on an ear and her throat but was otherwise ok. Vet refused painkillers to both saying a little pain might make them nicer to each other! You can tell he's a farm vet?

I'd be more inclined to fill him up with sprouts and good-for-him greens etc. to speed up the metabolism [beware the SBD's] than salt or any other chemicals.
Sorry about the broken night that's forecast for either of you - little did you ever dream you'd end up with these sort of problems when you first saw that poor little skinny broken-down Weim? Hope it stays dry for you!

Assume he's ok.

The other thing to keep in the house for after eating "nasties" is charcoal - great for poisoning.

Ugh, completely shattered this morning. Bob had a bad knee so was planning to sleep on the sofa with leg elevated where Gil had run into it earlier in the week. He was up at midnight for Gil wanting to pee, Max says no thanks then the minute Gil is down the road Max starts saying ' and me and me'! 2.30 up again and then at 4 and then at 6. Gil has flushed the salt through and I have told off our vet for saying ' give him loads of salt and make him sick'.

He seems fine, is normal in terms of pulling on lead, no heavy breathing, happy to have breakfast etc. I am working from hom today to keep an eye on him and for most of tomorrow also. You are right Fogdog, I did not think I would love him so much and he is actually tougher than I give him credit for. Many thanks for all your support, it means so much. Oh, yes and in the middle of all the drama our daughter phoned to tell us she was divorcing her husband for his affair. I am hoping for a quieter day today :rwl:

Dont think you need to worry about the chocolate. All of mine have managed to 'find' some at some point in their lives with no ill effects whatsoever, and in much larger amounts than Gil had. Many years ago Blue our rescue alsation managed to get into the cupboard and eat all my hoard of christmas chocolate in one go, and all he got was the 'squits' He ate about 7 or 8 packets of the multipack bars.

Fortunately we are in a little village, people know I am nuts so at night in my fluffy dressing gown and wellies, I am a regular sight, as is Bob is his checked version!

:rwl: I remember the 5 a.m. visit to the garden one morning when the dogs wanted to go out and they ganged up on our cat in the garden. I couldn't see what they were up to and had to rush down the garden in my fluffy dressing gown but I've lost the belt. I had to rescue the poor cat from Rossi's mouth and my dressing gown came open. I was thankful for the 6 ft wall and fences around the garden but hoped that none of the neighbours were looking out of their window at the time as it was almost daylight!

So pleased all is well with the boy.

Horrid news about your daughter. I'm not sure who causes the most grey hairs our dogs or our children.
